Obituary

Mary Louise Wood Sublett, 84, who was born December 14, 1932 in Owensboro, died at home in faithful anticipation of meeting God with open arms, with friends and family cheering her on in her final journey.

Mary loved her family and lived her life expecting to help others. She was an all-around tough lady with a fierce devotion to her loved ones. She was an incredibly positive person with a unique sense of humor which tickled herself as much as it did others.

As a perpetual learner and teacher she shared her love of music by playing harp, organ, and piano all her life. Mary taught music and special education for 33 years. She created The Healing Harp program which provided comfort and peace to many. Because of her lifetime love of art and all things beautiful, she strove to create, write, or learn something every day. As a prolific reader, Mary was a frequent patron of the library and paid their light bill in overdue fees many times. Her incredible memory and intelligence were amazing to behold.

Mary was a member of the last graduating class of St Francis Academy, and the first graduating class of Brescia College. She received her masters from Vanderbilt University, and in her retirement continued with classes just for fun at Murray and Brescia universities.

She was preceded in death by her parents Gertrude and Ira Wood Sr, her brother Billy Wood, her son Christopher and her beloved pets Hardy and Silas.

GrandMary is survived by her children, the daffodils: Ginny Hinton, Joseph Sublett (Cindy), John Sublett (Donna), David Sublett (Cindy), Sion Sublett (Audra) and Rebecca Weafer (Dennis); her grandchildren Chris Hinton, Michael Hagan (Sondra), Bryanna and Dustin Copeland, Summer and Addison Stratton, Brock Mullen, Alex Sublett, Ella Bartholomy, and great granddaughter Madalynn Hinton; many close nieces and nephews; and her best friends and mentors Mary Offerman and Suzanne Gochenouer. Tomeka Miller provided loving care after Mary suffered a stroke.

In her death, Mary has continued her love of education by donating her body to science. A funeral mass will follow upon the return of her cremains in 6-8 months.

Her family will receive friends at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m. Monday, where prayers will be said at 6:00 p.m.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Owensboro Humane Society or Hospice of Western Kentucky.
