Owensboro, Kentucky | Age 92

John "Jack" E. Hufnagel, 92, of Owensboro passed away early Tuesday, March 17, 2020 under the care of Hospice of W. Kentucky. Born September 25, 1927 in Covington to the late Charles and Theresa Tepper Hufnagel, Jack moved to Owensboro when his father was transferred with the L&N Railroad. He met Wanda Wahl while both were working at the Strand Theatre and they were later married and raised a family. Jack was employed at Green River Steel in the melt shop and retired from there after 33 years. He loved sports and coached youth football and baseball at Immaculate Parish where he and Wanda were charter members. Jack also enjoyed playing golf, bowling, fishing, softball, and horseracing as well as a good chew of tobacco and a cold beer. The family spent many pleasant southern coastal vacations together.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Hufnagel also was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Wanda Wahl Hufnagel in 2018; two sisters, Lucille Ruprecht and Thelma Tabling.

Those left to cherish his memory include his son, John Hufnagel and wife Nancy; daughter, Ann Payne and husband Kenny both of Owensboro; grandchildren Teresa Campbell (Jonathan) and Marilyn Crump (Mark); great grandchildren Brandon Fischer, Amanda Jarvis, and Lindsey Hudson; great-great-grandchildren Cayden Roper, Ryleigh Owen, Brystal Hudson, Karmen Hudson, and Willow Jarvis, Greyson Holmes, and Keegan Thomas; a special family friend, Brenda Sansone; and a host of nieces, nephews, and in-laws.

In compliance with health and public safety directives, the funeral arrangements for Mr. Hufnagel will be private. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery.
