Obituary

On February 4th, 2018 James Barry Wood loaded up his 1967 Corvette and headed for glory. It was a 1967 because that was absolutely his favorite car. Barry said the new the ones were close but were ruined without the round taillights. Barry was born on September 7, 1947 in Holt, KY. He served our country proudly by spending time fighting in Vietnam. Barry returned home to spend the next 27 years working his way through coal dust as well as the ranks of Big Rivers Electric. He retired after serving as the plant manager of no fewer than three power plants - the last in Sebree, KY. He believed that the best leaders follow MBWA - managing by walking around - a process he routinely followed. That wasn't enough for Barry. He then became the Director of the Daviess County Roads Department. After 12 years, he retired for good. He had next planned to spend time with his two great loves, his precious wife Beverly and golf. Unfortunately, Beverly departed this earth in 2010. She has been preparing a place for him ever since. On Feb 4th, 2018, Beverly met him at the pearly gates in a shiny gold golf cart and they caught a 10:00 am tee time with their Lord and Savior for endless rounds and perhaps softer language after a bad shot.
Barry is also catching up with his Dad and Mom, James Herbert and Alma Josephine Pumphrey Wood, who arrived to heaven ahead of him. He left ahead of his brother, Gordon, and his favorite nephew, Bradley Wood. His daughter JoAnn and son Alan will be hanging around here a little longer in Olive Branch, Mississippi with his son-in-law Grady Phillips and granddaughters Mary Grace and Lexi Phillips.

The service will be at 10 AM, Friday, February 9 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Rev. Jonathan Richey will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 until 8 PM and after 9 AM Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Cloverport Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests you kindly make a donation to the American Cancer Society in Barry's honor as he courageously fought lung cancer over the last years of his life.
