Harlan "Al" Johnson, 90, of Owensboro passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at his home. Born in Rose Creek, MN, he was the son of the late Arthur and Olga Palma Johnson, was of the Lutheran Faith and was very proud of his Norwegian heritage. Mr. Johnson was a 30-year veteran of the Owensboro Fire Department retiring in 1986 as OFD's first Battalion Chief. He loved playing golf and worked at the Hillcrest Golf Course after retiring from OFD. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid UK fan. Mr. Johnson was also a KY Colonel and an Army veteran. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Marie Ivey Johnson in 2013; and siblings, Alton Johnson, Carol Johnson, and Ella Duffy.

Surviving are his daughter, Debra Johnson of Owensboro; his sister-in-law, Judy (Mike) Miller of Owensboro; a niece, Holly (Philip) Needham of Owensboro; a nephew, John (Barbara) Ivey of Owensboro; several nieces and nephews in MN; and his two feathered friends Willow and Tango.

Services are 2 p.m. Saturday in the Chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Eddie Duke officiating. Burial in Elmwood Cemetery will be private. Visitation will be from 12-2 p.m. before the service.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice of Western Kentucky.
