Obituary

Faith V. Reed was always moving upward. Born on April 29, 1920, the sixth of seven children of Pleasant Plains, Arkansas to farmers, Ward and Nettie Hunt, young Faith Hunt would "rise up" early in the morning to pick cotton in the fields. Her youngest sister Mildred "Millie" Giffin, of Indianapolis, IN, is the only sibling to survive her.

In her final year of high school, she "jumped up" to a larger school, recruited to play basketball on their girls' team and meeting for the first time a young man named Everett "Pete" Reed, who played on the boys' squad. World events delayed Pete's amorous intentions, as both he and Faith "stood up" to serve their country at the start of World War II. Pete wrote to Faith throughout the war, and on January 23, 1946, they "stood up" together and took their marriage vows.
Faith and Pete had two sons, Larry and David, and Faith stayed home with the boys in Canoga Park, California, until Pete was tragically killed in an airplane crash on December 15, 1965.

Determined to "raise up" her two teenage sons to be men of character, Faith did not remarry, but rather "gave up" any personal romantic ambitions and spent the next 53 years dedicated to her sons and her Savior.
From the early days in southern California to her later days in western Kentucky, Faith led a life that may have seemed unremarkable. She kept a garden, canned homemade jam, and made the best custard pie this side of Heaven. She was a faithful member of Heritage Baptist Church of Owensboro, where she always found ways to serve. In her quiet, humble way, she infused love, joy, and wisdom into the lives of everyone who knew her.
Even in her final days, when her body was giving up and her sons, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren steadied her steps, she never complained. Then, on January 13, 2018, she heard the upward summons of her Lord to join Him in unrestrained joy, having completed her race with faithfulness to the end.

Faith Reed is survived by her son Larry and his wife Evelyn and by her son David and his wife Donna. Along with Faith's children, her six grandchildren--Susanna Mollica (Massimo), Michael Reed, Sharleen Phillips (Chris), Tony Reed, Nathan Reed, and Shannon Yates (Jordan)--will gladly explain to anyone why they actually did have the world's best grandmother. And to complete the joy of her later years, Faith was blessed with eight great grandchildren--Cassandra, Corissa, Alessandro, Eliana, Caydwyn, Gianluca, Giuliano, and Chiara.

As Proverbs 31:28-30 says, the children (and grandchildren) of this virtuous woman rise up and call her blessed, for this woman who feared the Lord is deserving of much praise.
