David W. McCrady, 50, of Owensboro passed away March 15, 2017 under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. McCrady was born on February 4, 1967 in Owensboro, KY to Earl and Edna Holt McCrady. After graduating from Daviess County High School, he graduated from Owensboro Community and Technical College with an associate's degree, attended the University of Montpellier in France, and graduated from Western Kentucky University with a bachelor's degree. In addition, he obtained an associate's degree in Fire Science from OCTC. David found his passion for service of firefighting as a squirrel before joining the Owensboro Fire Department and rising to the rank of Battalion Chief over his 21-year career. He served as president of the Green River Firefighters from 2013 to 2014, was an honorary member of the FOP, a Kentucky Colonel, is in the Hall of Fame for the Thruston/Philpot Fire Department, was a two-time Red Cross Hero and was a member of the Firefighters Union, the Ensor Masonic Lodge, and the Thruston/Philpot Fire Department. David enjoyed hunting ducks, fishing, cooking, Dallas Cowboys, and heavy metal music. He served as an instructor for the State Fire and Rescue Training and taught in the Owensboro Community and Technical College Fire Service program for many years. After his cancer diagnosis, David taught firefighter cancer awareness classes across the state.
In addition to his parents, survivors include his wife of 20 years, Christy McCrady; son, William McCrady; daughter, Georgia McCrady; sister, Cheryl McCrady all of Owensboro; and his extended family of firefighters.
The service will be 12pm Monday, March 20, 2017 at St. Stephens Cathedral with Fr. Jerry Riney officiating. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday 2pm to 8pm at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with prayers at 7pm and after 8:30 am on Monday at the funeral home.
