Ava Clarine Schartung, 81, of Owensboro passed away Monday at her home with her family by her side. Mrs. Schartung was born in McLean County to the late Silas and Josephine Caraway Erwin. Ava was a mischievous child who grew up on a farm around Slaughters and later moved to Owensboro. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, and crafts and had a good sense of humor. She raised three children while being a certified nurse assistant at Mercy and Owensboro-Daviess County hospitals. She loved her grandchildren and enjoyed having them around.
Mrs. Schartung was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Mike Schartung in 2005; two brothers, Bob and Reginald Erwin.
Those left to cherish her memory include her two sons, Eddie Schartung of Owensboro, Mark Schartung and wife Robin of Georgetown; daughter, Tonji Morris and husband Russell Jr. of Huntingburg, Indiana; five grandchildren, Myndi and Brittney Morris, Tristan Stewart, Nicholis and Ayden Schartung,; six great grandchildren, Taysha and Madyson Singer, Katryna and Kyla Morris, Jeremey Marks, and Tameran Wright; brother, Durward Erwin and wife Ann of Monterey, California; sister, Arlene Bullington of Evansville.
The service will be 2:00 PM Thursday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Evangelist Jerry Tackett officiating. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM and Thursday after noon at the funeral home.
